As close as I will ever be...

...to possibly the greatest tennis player ever (and IMHO one of the most gorgeous men on the planet! ;). See photo at the bottom of Federer walking off after ... Said I would publish results so you'll just have to watch or look it up...

So, from sweatshirts the first day to sweating to death today - it's definitely summertime in Melbourne now. Goodness! You know I'm a die-hard fan, and I flew halfway around the world for this - but even I had to retreat inside for a while.

Still having a blast but like everything there are pros and cons. The fact that the venues here are a bit smaller creates a wonderful sense of intimacy. But the downside is there is a queue for Everything! Again I have to recommend that if any of you ever come down here, you join as an AO member. I'm sitting right now in the air conditioned AO club having a break from the heat. And it's about the only place without a queue! All of that said I really can't complain. The tennis is great and I'm about as close as I'll ever be to the action!

I'm especially enjoying watching more of the women's matches than I usually get to see live. Radwanska and Wozniacki in particular are fun to watch. Haven't seen Clisters or Sharapova live yet but hope to.

I do have to share last night's extremely small world moment. I was sitting in the stands watching the night match at Rod Laver Arena when I turned around and saw the couple who sat across from me on he plane. Too funny. We got to be embarrassed together over the loud, obnoxious American sitting behind us who was finally escorted out by security. The Aussies next to me were very kind and understanding but I really wish our folks would either behave or stay home!

Again I won't give anything away, but here's a hint. You've got to watch the rematch of last year's women's final - wow!

  2. I think the queues would be worth it to be so close to the action. So the Fed doesn't disappoint in person, right? Some of the commentators were talking about the weather and remarking that the next stop south is Antarctica and so when the winds blow from that direction it brings the dips in temps. Makes since when you think about it!
Have fun and keep the posts coming.
